Summer Sizzle – Word Prompt

This is my attempt at a short story from the word prompt: Sizzle that I posted earlier.

The Young man lay on his back and looked at the sun through his slightly open fingers.

He laid on an old blanket, a tartan of blue and yellow, on the warm sandy beach. Only the sound of the sea lapping on the shore and the gentle breathing of a beautiful young woman lying beside him.

He reflected that life doesn’t get much better than this. The smell of the salty air, with just a light odour of seaweed, mingled with the coconut smell of the suntan oil his girlfriend was wearing.

She lay on her front in her blue bikini bottoms, her top lying unlaced to expose her oiled skin to the suns rays.

He could smell the sizzle of her skin.

“I think It’s time you turned over darling, or you’ll get sunburn.”

She lifted her head and lowered her dark rimmed Jackie O sunglasses and lazily replied “Oh just a few more minutes. It feels so good to have the sun on my back after that awful winter we had.”

Looking back on those moments of blissful joy they were bittersweet now as they waited in the clinic for the results of the biopsy.

The Doctor called them into his room. His beautiful wife of seven years looked very apprehensive as he squeezed her hand.

“I am sorry Mrs Clarke, the moles we took from your back are cancerous. Hopefully we have caught them early enough. You will need to undergo radiotherapy as soon as possible.”

The End

People are far too complicated to be able to describe in a few words so I am not even going to try.
