Her Legacy – A multiple word prompt short story.

She looked at her reflection in the mirror. Only a trace remained of her former beauty. She had been beautiful once and young.

She reflected how temporary both youth and beauty were. Evanescent. Here today then gone before you could appreciate them.

She had wanted to be a great actress or a model, but she had never been able to reach the heights. She always looked like a pale imitation of the real thing. A pastiche of a famous star. Some people had said she looked a bit like Elizabeth Taylor. She had dark hair like her but her eyes were just blue not violet like that famous screen siren’s.

She resigned herself to her fate, she would never be a great actress or model and gone were her youth and beauty. She wished now, she had cultivated her mind instead. That was something that seemed to last a bit longer.

Well never to late to start. She clicked onto the website of her local college and enrolled on a course.

Then she returned to babysitting her three gorgeous grandchildren. They were her legacy after all.

People are far too complicated to be able to describe in a few words so I am not even going to try.

    1. When I say to my Mum, “I’ve written another short story”. She always replies “Don’t read it to me, I can’t bear another dark depressing ending. What’s it this time, a suicide?”
I’d hate to become typecast πŸ˜‰ I’m glad you liked this not so dark tale πŸ™‚
