The tree was a monument to a lost generation.

Each shoe represented a child who’d been shot dead at school.

The killings had to end but the tree would remain until Congress passed laws restricting access to guns.

It would likely remain a while until the blood price was paid.

  1. A sad thought that it would “likely remain a while”. It is undeniably clear where this country’s priorities lie, and it is definitely not in our future or the children who survive to take the reigns. ☹️

    1. For some reason the tree made me think of two sad and sinister scenarios, Either a memorial to people who were lynched, a bit like the song ‘Strange Fruit’ or the one I ended up writing. Either way it was quite grim and emotional.
