And the words:

“She was murdered,” Rabbit says. – Kate Racculia’s Bellweather Rhapsody

When they found the body at the bottom of the steep stone steps in the middle of the wood, they’d assumed that she had fallen to her death. There was no handrail, safety not being at the forefront of people’s minds in that backward part of the world.

Luckily Badger had his mobile phone and a signal so he called the police.

To their surprise, the police constable arrived on the scene very quickly. Constable Rabbit took details from both Badger and Mole and wrote down their account of finding the body.

“She was murdered,” Rabbit says, quite suddenly, making them jump.

Amazed at his perspicacity, Mole asks “How can you tell?”

“Simple,” Rabbit replied, “I can see her footprints on the path heading towards the steps so she couldn’t have fallen down them. Also, if you’d looked, you’d have seen she has been strangled with her own kerchief.”
