Well, hasn’t it been fun? I would like to thank all the bloggers that were doing this and let me join them and also all the others that have decided to play along.
So December and 2018 comes to an end (Yes I’m aware that there are 31 days in December, but clearly this challenge does not). Look back on the year, which is full of both happy and sad memories, and try to keep hold of the good and forget the bad, and depending on what they were, that is easier said than done, I know.
I hope January and 2019 brings many happy times for you.
Day 30 – A Song that Reminds you of Yourself.
The Monkees – Daydream Believer.
I believe in Daydreams. Without Hope, all is despair.
This song is a very old one, written in 1929, nearly 90 years ago. As such, I don’t remember the original recording from childhood, but in the 1980’s Sting, who had been in the band The Police, launched a solo career and recorded a great version of this song. I remember when it came out and I have loved this ever since.
It’s Christmas Day! Whether you’re into it or not, I hope you have a great day.
Day 25 – A Song you like by an artist no longer living.
Right, so it’s Christmas, and a lot of the great Christmas songs were performed by artists that are no longer with us, but I will probably not be the only one who decides to pick one of the best. It’s got to be Bing.
Bing Crosby – White Christmas.
White Christmas’s are rare in my part of the country. We usually only get a sprinkling of snow at the end of January, so this song may not be so appropriate for me, or for many of you, but I just love that mans voice.
It is Christmas Eve and I know that some people have their main feast on this day rather than on Christmas Day itself. For me, Christmas Eve has always had an added significance because it is one of my Uncles Birthday and so we have always had a family gathering to wish him a happy birthday on this day. We then exchange gifts, but don’t open them until the big day itself. So Happy Birthday Uncle.
Day 24 – A Song by a Band you wish were still together.
This band is only not together due to the untimely death of it’s lead singer. They still tour to this day.
Queen – We are the Champions.
This song always makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Day 23 – A Song you think everybody should listen to.
Well, I’m not so demanding that I think EVERYBODY should listen to something, just because I like it. I accept that we all have different musical tastes. I make no secret of the fact that I think most music that’s in the charts at the moment is a load of rubbish. For me, it’s got to have a melody or a great rhythm. So I will choose something I think is great, but you are free to have your own opinion.
Gerry and the Pacemakers – You’ll Never Walk Alone.
This song was written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II for the musical Carousel. After this Liverpool based band had a huge hit with it in 1963 it became the official song of Liverpool United Football (Soccer) Club and has remained so ever since. I do not follow football at all, but you’ve got to love that song!
