
She held his hand and pulled him near,
kissed, then ran behind a tree to jeer,
through forest glade and woodland walk
they wandered as she’d joke and talk,
her behaviour seemed quite ambiguous
as they passed beneath trees, both evergreen and deciduous.
finally, she stopped and fixed him with long stairs,
he felt like a rabbit caught in a rifle’s crosshairs.
At last, he asked, “Why are you staring?
“Why do you entice, then seem so uncaring?”
She raised her eyebrow and rolled her eyes.
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m trying to disguise,
my feelings for you, Can’t you see?
I’m in love with you, but you don’t care for me.”
Then he smiled broadly and kissed her anew
“Ah, my darling,” he said, “but you see, I do”.
