Mystery Blogger Award Nomination

I’m absolutely thrilled and tickled pink to have been nominated for this award by my great blogging pal, Beckie, of Beckie’s Mental Mess. Please check out her post here, and while you’re there, say Hi and look round her blog.

Mystery Blogger Award #8

We’re also working together on a collaborative poem about time travel at the moment, click on the link to see how it’s coming along:

Now, what’s the Mystery Blogger Award?

“It’s an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.”

  1.  Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Answer the 5 questions you were asked
  6. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  7. You have to nominate 10 – 20 people ( 6 )
  8. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  9. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  10. Share a link to your best post(s).

Three things about me:

  1. I live in the same county that I was born in, although I have lived in other places.
  2. I have never been to the Continent of America.
  3. I take my tea bags and often a teapot with me on trips abroad (and sometimes trips away in this country too)

Questions from Beckie:

  1. What are your aspirations in life? – I wanted to have a nice home, a nice partner and chickens, enough money to live on and some outlet for my creativity. How did I do? well, I do have a nice home and chickens and I have a creative outlet in the form of my blog, so not too bad.
  2. If you had $5000, what charity would you donate it to? – I would probably split it between a number of charities that I’d like to support. Macmillan is a charity that supports people diagnosed with Cancer and that is something I would support. I would also give to Cancer Research UK, they look into ways to cure cancers or improve current treatment. I would also give something to help the Elderly, we have a charity called Age UK, so that would be good, then at the other end of the spectrum, help the children is a great charity too. There are so many charitable causes that are very worthy so it’s hard to choose but those are my four. They’d get $1250 each.
  3. What is your favorite kind of music to chill out to? – I’ve posted about my relaxing music before, it’s mainly classical or instrumental. Albatross by Fleetwood Mac is one of my favourites, along with Morning by Edvard Grieg.
  4. How would you rate your experience on WordPress?  1 being lowest, 10 being highest. – Overall OK, 7 or 8. The Tygpress thing was definitely a low point, but it is an easy to use blog, otherwise, I wouldn’t be here. So I do thank WordPress for creating an easy to use and inexpensive blogging system.
  5. Have you gained real friendships through blogging? – I have definitely made friends, if by friends you mean people who you love to hear from and miss when you don’t hear from them for a while. I miss Teresa, The Haunted Wordsmith and my friend, the Britchy One. I love to hear from my friend Beckie and also Rory, A Guy Called Bloke. Lots of lovely people on here.

Questions from me:

  1. If you were offered £/$ 100,000 to sleep in a haunted house, would you? How would you cope?
  2. What was your favourite show as a kid?
  3. Do you have any weird habits?
  4. If money didn’t matter, what would you do with your life
  5. What is your favourite thing about yourself?

I would like to nominate anyone who has read this post and would like to answer the questions. Go ahead, be my guest.

Sunshine Blogger Award Nomination

Well, I am just tickled pink and over the moon (which is apparently going to be eclipsed tonight) that I have been nominated for the sunshine blogger award by Laura of Lauravent69, see the post here:

Sunshine Blogger Award

The Rules

  1. Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link back to their blog so others can find them – Thank you, Laura, you are totally a star. 🙂
  2. Answer the 11 questions asked by the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers and ask them 11 new questions.
  4. Notify the nominees about it on one of their own posts.
  5. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or your blog site.

Questions from Laura

  1. What is your favourite time of day?
  2. Your favourite genre of movies and your top three of that genre?
  3. What are your top 5 favourite songs of all time?
  4. What is your favourite thing to do in your down time?
  5. Is there anything in your life that you want but have yet to accomplish?
  6. Name your muse for much of your writing.
  7. Do you prefer Japanese or Chinese cuisine?
  8. If you could talk to any one person that is no longer alive, who would it be?
  9. How many siblings do you have?
  10. Would you say that you are an adventurer or a thrill seeker?
  11. What is your favourite candy?

My Answers:

  1. Mid Morning – I still feel refreshed and full of energy. 9:30 – 11am is usually when I feel at my best, then I normally get a second wind about 3 or 4pm that lasts for a couple of hours. Then it’s downhill until bedtime.
  2. I love Fantasy (wizards and stuff like that) my favourites in that genre would be The Dark Crystal, Time Bandits and The Princess Bride. (I grew up in the 1980’s, in case you hadn’t worked it out from that list).
  3. My top 5 would be constantly changing, but 5 that would always be favourites are Alison Moyet – That Ole Devil called Love, The Seekers – Island of Dreams, Edison Lighthouse – Love grows where my Rosemary goes, The Mamas and the Papas – Monday Monday and Carpenters – Top of the World.
  4. Blogging, Gardening and watching my Chickens in the garden.
  5. I’d love to be a famous published Author, that would be pretty good.
  6. I don’t have a muse. The inspiration just comes and I am grateful for it.
  7. I don’t really know enough about Japanese or Chinese food, but I don’t like Sushi and I really like Dim sum dumplings and Prawn Crackers, so in my naievety I would have to say Chinese.
  8. I’d like to have a nice long friendly chat to Queen Elizabeth the First. She is such an Iconic figure from English history and rather a hero (or Heroine) of mine, so I’d love to find out more about what made her tick. I have my suspicions.
  9. I feel like I have lots of siblings, I have lots of cousins and friends who are as close as brothers and sisters to me.
  10. I am definitely an adventurer but NOT a thrill seeker. I hate fairground rides and the idea of skydiving or bungee jumping just leaves me feeling flat and rather nauseated, but the idea of visiting a part of the world I’ve not been to, that is my kind of thrill.
  11. I don’t really have much of a sweet tooth. I can’t stand Icing (frosting) or Meringue. I am rather fond of Digestive biscuits ( a plain cookie) and I like Kit Kats.

Mystery Blogger Award Nomination

I was nominated for this award by Laura of Lauravent69 a little while ago. I apologise for taking my time with it. Thank you again for nominating me. 🙂

Please check out the post here:

The Mystery Blogger Award

“The Mystery Blogger Award” is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging, and they do it with so much love and passion.
– Okoto Enigma

4) Answer the questions from the person who nominated you

5) Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award

6) Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice with one weird or funny one

Three things about me:

1) I did my very first podcast interview the other day, click on this link to listen to it:

I am still not sure about the experience. I don’t really like how my voice sounded, and I am a non-political blog so do not want anyone to be offended by anything. I am also keen that the focus on my blog is what I write and not who I am.

2) I can play the piano, but not that brilliantly.

3) I love Cheese, but not plastic cheese, I mean proper cheese, like Cheddar or Gouda.

Questions from Laura:

  1. What is your favourite hobby? – I have lots of hobbies and its difficult to pick just one. I love looking after my chickens, gardening and also writing.
  2. Is there anyplace you’d like to go on vacation that you have never had the chance to visit before? – Oh, hundreds of places. I’d like to go to Dubrovnik on the Croatian coast. I’d like to visit Iceland. I would also like to visit Canada and the South Island of New Zealand. One day.
  3. What does blogging do for you mentally? – It helps me focus on my writing. It means that rather than write occasionally, I am writing something every day. That is fantastic. It also gives me an instant response, if people like it. That’s great. I sometimes feel pressured though, and I do worry that I am not delivering quite what people want, all the time…
  4. Your top 5 movies of all time. – As people who follow my blog should know by now, I love OLD movies and I MEAN stuff that came out before I was born. My list also changes a lot depending on my Mood. at the moment they are: – Gone with The Wind, All about Eve, There’s Something About Mary, The Dark Crystal and Singing in the Rain. But it might be different tomorrow.
  5. Favorite snack. – I love anything salty and vinegary. So Salt and vinegar crisps (Potato chips) are good for me. Also, I love Pickled herrings, pickled onions, basically anything in vinegar.

So there you go. You should know I’m weird by now, surely?

My Questions for my nominees.

  1. When did you start Blogging?
  2. Did you have an Icon you looked up to at school?
  3. What are your 5 favourite songs?
  4. What is your favourite Pet animal?
  5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?

So there you go.

Now, who shall I nominate?

Well, how about YOU? Do you fancy having a go? well, consider yourself nominated.

Have a great weekend.

Tell the Story 2 – Track Buddies.

JP the Wide-Eyed Wanderer has nominated me to take part in this Picture Challenge. See the post below:

Life was not always easy. Sometimes it was damn hard. In fact, every damn day.

She used to go and sit down on the train tracks. Just sit there and watch the rails disappear off into the distance. It made here think, about life, about where she wanted to go.

That’s where she met Boss. Boss was a street dog who used to limp up to her. At first, he used to growl and then whimper, wanting to come up and say hello, but also strangely scared. Then she noticed that his paw was swollen. He had a piece of something, a shard of metal, stuck in his toes. After she’d managed to get it out, they became firm friends. He’d come and sit next to her on the train tracks. He’d gaze off into the distance too. Just like her. They were two of a kind.

It was Boss who managed to hear the train in time and dragged her off the tracks.

After that, they became inseparable.

So now it’s my turn to pass the challenge on.

Here is the picture:

So My Three Nominees are:

Have fun. 🙂

  1. I can play the Irish Tin Whistle
  2. I’m addicted to Goats Cheese.
  3. I’ve never been to Disneyland.

Questions from Laura

  1. What is your favourite wildlife animal?
  2. How long have you been blogging?
  3. Share something funny that you have had happen in life.
  4. Your favourite blog that might not have received a lot of attention.
  5. Favourite blog by a fellow blogger.

My Answers

  1. I love lots of animals, I don’t really have a favourite. I am very fond of my pet Chickens, Adelaide, Angelica, Esmerelda and Maggie. I also like the cheeky Robin that keeps following me around the garden, and sneaks into the chicken run and steals their food.
  2. I started blogging on the 7th of March 2018, So I am fast approaching my Anniversary. I had absolutely no experience of blogging before that. It has been an exciting learning curve. I still don’t have the best-designed blog, and I still struggle with layout and things, but I am really pleased with how things have turned out. For me to continue doing this for a year is just unheard of, I usually lose interest in a few months!
  3. When I was a few years younger than I am now, I went to the Eden Project in Cornwall and there was a group of Schoolgirls (young teens) from France there. They kept looking over at me and giggling then one came over to me and said: “Excuse me, are you Kevin Costner?” I couldn’t believe it. They asked me for my autograph despite me telling them that I wasn’t. He is a bit older than me, but I was still surprised to be compared to a Hollywood heartthrob.
  4. There are lots of blogs out there that I admire greatly, but I don’t know if they are getting lots of attention or not. I find it hard to winnow all those great ones and choose just one. This one is one that I like a lot:
  5. I can’t choose just one favourite, I have so many. The Britchy One from Bitchin in the Kitchen, Rory A Guy Called Bloke, Teresa, The Haunted Wordsmith and Mel from Crushed Caramel, to name just a few, plus, of course, the ones I am nominating.

My Nominees:

#MLMM — haiku: first snow

“The Mystery Blogger Award is an award for unique bloggers with witty messages. The blog not only captivates but inspires and motivates. They are one of the best bloggers that exist, and they deserve all the recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who have fun and inspire people in their blogs; and they do it with love and passion.”

Creator: Okoto Enigma

The prize is called ‘Mystery Blogger Award’ because the meaning of ‘Enigma’ is ‘mystery’, so it bears the name of its creator. In addition, it is a very appropriate name because there are many blogs that are still a mystery for all of us and when we know them, they result in being extraordinary.

1. Put the award logo/image on your blog.

2. List the rules.

3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog. – Thanks, Sadje and Teresa. 🙂

4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.

5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself.

6. You have to nominate 10- 20 people.

7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.

8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify).

9.Share a link to your best post(s).

OK Three things about me:

  1. My eyes have different colours in them. Mainly pale blue but with a dark blue surround and a golden brown around the pupil, this is apparently quite unusual.
  2. I can list every President of the United States from 1900 to the present and I’m not American.
  3. I have never eaten Lobster.

Mel’s Questions for me:

  2. HAVE YOU MADE ANY CONFESSIONS IN YOUR BLOGGING POSTS ABOUT MOMENTS OF MADNESS IN YOUR LIFE OR TIMES YOU WERE ALMOST IN TROUBLE WITH THE AUTHORITIES? (I know that some of my nominees have shared a long list of their confessions already, so please do pick the most outrageous!) – I’ve mentioned this before by I once nearly got arrested for dancing in a pub carpark (someone reported me for behaving oddly) oh and I got a speeding ticket once. Apart from that I’ve either been really good, or not been caught yet, I’ll let you guess which. 🙂
  3. WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL OR MEMORABLE DISH YOU HAVE EVER EATEN? I went to an Ethiopian restaurant in London not knowing what to expect and it was marvellous!
  6. HAVE YOU ANY EXPERIENCE OF ACTING, SPEAKING, SINGING OR DANCING ON A STAGE? I sing all the time. I am singing in a choir to collect money for a cat charity this Christmas. I once sang (at school) in the choir on stage at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
  7. APART FROM REMOVING ANY PARTICULAR POLITICIANS, IS THERE ANY ISSUE OR PROBLEM IN THIS WORLD THAT YOU FEEL PASSIONATELY YOU WOULD LIKE TO CHANGE? – I would like people to be able to argue from opposing views without making personal attacks. We don’t have to think the same to be friends and if we think differently, that doesn’t have to make us enemies.
  8. IF I WERE TO MAKE YOU YOUR DREAM CAKE – WHAT WOULD THAT CAKE BE? – I like a nice plain sponge with apple and cream filling and No icing because I think that is sickly
  9. WHAT WOULD YOU LOVE TO SEE ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THE NEWSPAPERS TOMORROW MORNING? (other than than any particular politician being abducted by aliens) –  Universal Cure for Cancer found.

Sadje’s Questions:

1. what is the more important thing for you, your day job or blogging? – Well currently I am on a Hiatus from working, if anyone out there would like to give me a job, then let me know 😉 so the answer is Blogging.

2. What are your plans for the coming year? – Getting a job. Writing more stuff. I have a planned holiday/vacation to Derbyshire for a long weekend at the end of January.

3. Has any of your blog post has received a surprise response? – I am surprised and pleased whenever i get a response. I’ve had a couple of responses asking me when I’m going to get published, which is nice.

4. A cat or dog, which one you have as a pet or would like to? – I’d love a chicken friendly dog.

5. What is one habit you want to give up? – I’m in a good place at the moment, the only thing would be worrying. I worry too much .

My Nominees:

If I have NEVER nominated you for anything and you’d like to take part in this, please consider yourself nominated, and accept my apologies for overlooking you in the past.

My Questions:

What Book have you recently read and liked?

Link to a post of someone else’s that you really liked (Just one please)

What do you like most about the place you live?

What would your ideal job be like?

Would you rather be a published author or a T.V  celebrity?

Things that Make me Happy – A short poem

This poem was written in response to a challenge set by Esther Chilton. See link below:

The challenge is to write a short story, poem or limerick about the things that make you happy.

Well here is my attempt:

An adventure to explore beyond my front door.

A place to call home when I’ve finished my roam.

My wonderful friends to make amends

for those hateful few, who spoil the crew.

It’s these simple things that somehow brings,

Though they may be small, the most happiness of all.

6-Word Story –13th June

Word Prompt: Lone Warrior

In every battle there are allies.

Some wars must be fought alone

We all have our battles in life. Sometimes it turns out others are fighting the same battle and by coming together to form allies we can help each other and make the battle less difficult. On the other hand, sometimes there are struggles that me must fight on our own. With wisdom and experience comes the ability to tell one situation from the other.

I am not wise enough yet, myself, though.

Liebster Award Nomination

Wow, this is fantastic! I have been nominated for the Liebster award by that fantastic bloke

Liebster Award – Nomination 8

His blog is amazingly diverse from poems, dog and cat interviews, entertaining stories and quotes of the day. Some of his poems are a bit near the knuckle, he knows the one I mean… 🙂 but they are always entertaining. Thank you for the nomination.

The Rules

  1. Acknowledge the blog who nominated you
  2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator asked
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers.
  4. Ask them 11 questions.
  5. Let them know you have nominated them.

Questions from Guy called Bloke:
1] WhAt is the WEirDeSt thing about you?

I can’t choose, there are so many. I am really talkative but sometimes find it hard to talk if there are lots of people around me, so some people know me as that quiet guy and others think I am that outgoing person. I am both. Eye contact is a thing too. I either end up giving too much eye contact so people think I am trying to scare them, or end up talking to the ceiling. Hopefully people just see me smiling and know I am trying.

2] If you had a choice to be haunted by a ghost, who would you pick and why?

Probably the ghost of someone nice but interesting, who I could have a good chat to. I can’t think of anyone offhand though…

3] Which cartoon character do you resemble the most??

I don’t really know. People used to say I looked like Animal from the Muppets.

4] Is there anything orange within 10 feet of you right now? WHAT???

The cover of the book ‘A Short History of the World’ by Geoffrey Blainey. (not sure if I have actually read it.)

5] John Belushi in Animal House 1978 is a classic, however if you haven’t seen it, nor care for it, well it isn’t! However the question IS have you ever been involved in a Food Fight?? Fess up, how, when , why?

I did have a food fight at University. I remember coming back from a night out with some friends and I announced that I was sober enough to cook us all a fried breakfast, it was 2am. I was right, as it turned out. I cooked us all an amazing breakfast with lots of tomato ketchup. Then one of the guys who’s room was in the same building and we shared the kitchen with, came back from having a few drinks. He was a bit more worse for wear than I was. He opened the fridge and began eating a bowl of custard that he managed to get all down him. Well, we laughed. So he started, playfully and drunkenly throwing custard at us. So we threw tomato ketchup at him and then it turned into a full on food fight. Both Custard and tomato ketchup feel really horrible drying on your skin, and so I decided to take a shower. Unfortunately play time for my mates hadn’t ended and they sneaked into the bathroom and took my clothes while I was in the shower. They then used the keys in my trouser pocket to lock my bedroom door and took my clothes and keys into the kitchen where they waited for me with a camera at the ready.

I managed to find someone’s rugby sock to preserve my dignity….I know the photos are waiting somewhere for me to become worth blackmailing.
9] Have you figured it out yet and if so what is the point? That’s the question, not 2 B or not 2 B but the point?

Yes. There is no purpose at all. The train doesn’t go anywhere; just enjoy the ride.

10] Which was better, above or below and why? And if Neither, show us yours!

I prefer Cars By Gary Numan, but the video didn’t work. I liked more tune, and it has an interesting tune. It also takes me back to when I used to hear it in the early 80’s when I was a wee lad.

11] What is the opposite to being scared of heights?

Afraid of Pits and holes. Seems like a perfectly sensible phobia to me.

Answers please on the back of a used sock!

I am sorry for not replying on a used sock, they were all in the wash.

My Questions for my nominees:

  1. Name a tree, plant or flower that you really like.
  2. Do you have any simple recipes that have been handed down in your family? If so, share one.
  3. Sponge cake or Cheese platter?
  4. Who is an author who you recently discovered and really like?
  5. Is there a song that takes you back to your childhood? If so name it.
  6. Name the movie you have watched the most times.
  7. If zombies came through your front door and you had to make a run through your back door and only had time to grab one thing to take with you, what would it be?
  8. If you were bought tickets to go to any large venue and watch anything of your choice, what would we see when the curtain goes up?
  9. Would you rather be a vampire or a werewolf?
  10. Can you play a musical instrument? Tell me which one/ones
  11. If you wrote a bestseller who would you dedicate it to?
