Pop! Positivity – 3 songs that make me happy.

I was tagged to take part in this challenge by Melanie B Cee of the blog sparks from a combustible mind. Click on the link below:

https://sparksfromacombustiblemind.com/2019/10/24/pop-positively/

“What is “Pop!” – Pop of Positivity?”

“Pop of Positivity”   It’s based on one simple thing.  “Life doesn’t have to suck all the time.”  Let’s face it… There’s a Helluva lot of negativity in the real world, and it’s pretty hard to escape it.  I thought of this as a means to brighten up everyone’s day.  Taking time away from thinking about the negative and switch gears and think of the positive.  Perhaps,  we can all share some smiles along the way too.

#5 Theme: Post an Affirmation That Lifts You Up and a Song That Makes Brightens and Perks Up Your Mood.

Rules:

  1. Each Thursday, I’ll pick a Theme (Naturally, of something positive).
  2. Tag 3 Bloggers to continue the themed positive message along.
  3. You, the recipient of the tag can select anyway fit on how you want to share this positivity.  (Example: Post an Affirmation that lifts you up as well as a song that brightens and perks up your mood).
  4. You will create a Pingback to the original post, as well as notifying your tagged blogger that you have selected them.

So here we go:

and my song:

This always makes me happy, singing along to this silly song in the car.

The challenge was initiated by my Pal Beckie of Beckie’s Mental Mess.

“Pop of Positivity” aka “POP!” Debut and Test Run: Time To Be Happy

Beckie states:

“Pop of Positivity”

“Pop of Positivity”   It’s based on one simple thing.  “Life doesn’t have to suck all the time.”  Let’s face it… There is a Helluva lot of negativity in the real world, and it’s pretty hard to escape it.  I thought of this as a means to brighten up everyone’s day from thinking negatively for a moment out of their day.  Perhaps, share some smiles along the way too.

Rules:

  1. Each Thursday, I’ll pick a Theme (Naturally something positive).

  2. I will, therefore, Tag Two Bloggers to continue the themed positive message along.

  3. You, the recipient of the tag can select anyway fit on how you want to share this positivity.  (Example: Quote, Affirmation, Music Video, Memes, Pictures, etc… As long it sticks to the Theme).

  4. Please create a ping-back to the original post (Beckie’s), as well as notifying your tagged bloggers that you have selected them.

Fairly easy, right?  Let’s say we give this a shot, okay?

Topic: Time To Be Happy”

So here I go:

“There isn’t much more positive than watching the Sunrise on a brand new day, feeling like there is a world of opportunity out there ready and waiting for you to grab it.”

You could be positive about winning the lottery….

But watching my chickens pecking around my garden gives me more pleasure than Gold.

Enjoying all the plants and flowers in my garden, that always puts me in a positive mood. IMG_3724

Of course, a bit of meditation is always nice….

But I find dancing around to cheesy music gives me a lift (even if the pictures blurry).

Maybe I should relax more and do a bit of Yoga on the beach….

But then again, maybe not. I’ll just enjoy staring at this picture of a sunflower instead. 😉

So, if you fancy taking up the baton and sharing some pictures of what makes you feel happy and positive, then please go right ahead.

I’ve reached 1000 followers!!! THANK YOU.

1,000 Follows!

Congratulations on getting 1,000 total follows on Tales from the mind of Kristian!
Your current tally is 1,001.
I am so excited that I have now reached/exceeded 1000 followers!
I have been blogging now since the 7th of March 2018, so well over a year, but I had no blogging experience before then and had no expectations. I just wanted to write stories and poetry and have somewhere to put them. With those low expectations in mind, I did not expect to make so many wonderful blogging friends, to meet so many excellent writers and poets and to thoroughly enjoy my blogging experience.
To have achieved 1000 followers, I am thrilled!
I would like to give a HUGE thank you.

THANK YOU!

Thanks, to all my followers and my regular readers and commenters. I would have given up blogging ages ago without your support and encouragement.

Cheers!

Cheers

Happy Saint David’s Day

DSC05453DSC05454DSC05525

It’s the first of March and in the UK that means it is St. Davids Day, the patron saint of Wales, which is represented by the Daffodil.

In some years Spring is late so there are no daffodils growing in the garden at this time of year, although the supermarkets are always full of them, grown under cover possibly in Holland where a lot of our cut flowers come from.

This year we have just had a warm spell (temperatures even reached 20 degrees Celsius in Aberystwyth, my University town where the middle photo was taken) and so the Daffs are out!

Lovely.

Have a nice day.

Sunshine Blogger Award Nomination!

I have been nominated by one of my new blogging pals, Sadje, of Keep it Alive,

See here for her excellent post and to find out more about her:

The Rules:

1.Thank the blogger/s who nominated you.

2.Use the “Sunshine Blogger Award” logo on your post and list the rules.

3.Answer the 11 questions the selector asks of you.

4.Nominate 11 bloggers you want to give the award to.

5.Ask the bloggers 11 questions of your own.

So firstly, Thank you very much, Sadje, for your kind nomination. It was great finding out more about you and thank you for finding my blog and leaving your lovely, supportive comments. It is much appreciated. 🙂

Sadje’s Questions

What made you start blogging?

I started blogging because I had just started doing a creative writing course, and the flow of my writing had gone from a trickle to writing something every day. I wanted a place I could keep all the stuff I had written in the past and was now writing in greater amounts. I also wanted to seek feedback and answers to the question I had thus far been too scared to ask – Am I any Good?

Do your friends and family support you in this?

Friends and family have been supportive. Occasionally one will read a poem or story and tell me they liked it, but they do not ‘follow’ my blog or read much of it. I have found the most supportive and encouraging people have been my fellow bloggers. That has been the greatest surprise to me, I never thought I would find so many fantastic people blogging. I owe a lot to this blogging community on WordPress. Thanks must go to, to WordPress itself for creating a blog format that even I could use. 🙂

Which is your favourite time of the day?

I like mid mornings. I am neither an early bird nor a night owl. I like 9am – 12pm and I also like early evenings 5pm – 8pm. Those are my most productive hours.

What would be your dream vacation?

I have been lucky to have lots of lovely holidays. They usually involved being able to catch up with friends that I don’t see as often as I would like. A friend of mine lives in Melbourne, Australia and she is a musician. A few years ago she was invited to perform on a cruise ship that was going round the Baltic sea stopping in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki and St. Petersburg. I decided to book on the cruise, and we had a wonderful time exploring and I spent time with my friend and her husband.

I have never been to the South Island of New Zealand to that would be a dream. Also, I’d quite like to see Canada. I have also made a few blogging friends in the States so It might be fun to say hi to them.

One of my favourite places in the world is the Isle of Wight. That is my happy place.

What genre of movies you like best?

I love comedies, but clever ones, I’m not so much into slapstick. I love musicals and I love a fantasy story, something that takes you on a journey. I don’t like Horror, or films that a very gritty. I also prefer a happy ending. I want to be made to feel better by a film, not wallow in misery and despair.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?

I’m British, so I don’t really like talking about strengths, it sound so big-headed. I would like my strengths to be that people enjoy my company, I make them laugh, I would like another strength to be my writing, but I think that it is best for others to say if that is or not. My weaknesses are more than I can say in this blog. I talk too much. I am a coward. I fear everything and my own fear prevents me from being a better person.

Are you an emotional person?

I try my best to keep a British ‘Stiff-upper lip’ but Underneath that I am a seething mass of emotions. I am very emotional, far too emotional.

What motivates you in life and writing?

A desire to be the best person I can be. I am motivated to learn. My motivation for writing is that I have so many ideas buzzing round in my head, I have just got to get some of them down on paper, or on screen.

What sort of friend are you to your pals?

One that when you make an effort to contact me, I will pick up where we left off. I will make you laugh and I will entertain you. I am terrible at keeping in touch. I do not respond straight away to text messages or emails. I do normally respond eventually.

Have you written poetry as well?

I write poetry and prose. I write stories all the time, but only write poetry when the inspiration takes hold of me. I need more motivation to write poetry than I do a story. I have to be in the right frame of mind.

Being happy or peaceful, what is more important to you?

I think both are intrinsically linked. I couldn’t be happy in a noisy and chaotic environment. I am happiest when at peace. I am at peace when I am happy. 🙂

My Nominations

This is the bit I find so hard. The hardest thing of all. I have so many blogging friends out there, some like these awards and some do not. Some feel that these awards are too time consuming and I do not want to put anyone under pressure. I owe a great deal to my followers and so If any one of my followers read this and want to take part in this, consider yourselves nominated. I couldn’t do what I do without YOU.

I think that Sadje has asked some excellent questions and so I will ask a few of my own but feel free to pick your eleven from some of mine or some of Sadje’s you can mix and match as you feel fit. 🙂

Some Extra Questions to Choose From:

  1. What elements/ aspects of Fantasy or Sci-Fi do you want to be real?
  2. Which Actor or Actress who has never won an Oscar do you think should have?
  3. Is there a moment in History that you wish you could go back and witness to find out what really happened?
  4. Who has inspired you the most?
  5. If you could keep any animal as a pet (and have all the things they needed to be happy) what animal would it be?
  6. Would you rather go to a big party and rub shoulders with the rich and famous or go to an amazing quiet Garden that hardly anyone has ever visited?
  7. Do you plan things in advance or take life as it comes?
  8. When reading a book what normally encourages you to keep reading?
  9. When reading or watching a film, what things would make you ‘switch off’?
  10. Do you connect most with evil characters or good ones?
  11. Name a character from a book or movie that you really connected with and understood.

OK. That should keep you busy. If you decide to take part in this, please link to me so I can read them.

I have taken this opportunity to broadcast to the blogosphere a bit more about me and maybe shed some misconceptions or at least some of my secrecy. 🙂

Thanks to Sadje again for the Nomination and Thank you for reading this. Have a great day everyone. 🙂

Things that Make me Happy – A short poem

This poem was written in response to a challenge set by Esther Chilton. See link below:

https://esthernewtonblog.wordpress.com/2018/08/30/i-challenge-you-to-29/comment-page-1/#comment-14328

The challenge is to write a short story, poem or limerick about the things that make you happy.

Well here is my attempt:

An adventure to explore beyond my front door.

A place to call home when I’ve finished my roam.

My wonderful friends to make amends

for those hateful few, who spoil the crew.

It’s these simple things that somehow brings,

Though they may be small, the most happiness of all.

FEELING EXCITED – Sharing some good news.

I have just received some really exciting news that I’d like to share with you.

Some of you may be aware that earlier this year I was doing a creating writing course. The college that I studied at, CityLit, in London ask everyone who studies with them to submit one piece of work. They then choose the best from that year to include in a published anthology.

I have just been told that the poem I submitted will be included in their 2018 anthology!

I am going to be published!

I am really thrilled.

This was the poem:

So why am I passionate about blogging?

Well I’m not sure I am passionate about it, I’m a cold blooded Englishman and as such am only passionate about two things, A Cup of Tea and the Weather. I do have to admit though that Blogging has become a bit of an addiction for me. I am enjoying it immensely and much more than I ever would have thought possible. It is the act of sharing a story or poem with with world, then receiving helpful and positive comments and a few likes. I suppose it strokes my ego. I have also enjoyed talking and interacting with people from all around the world, reading what others have put on their blogs and leaving my comments. IT is a much more friendly, supportive and engaging experience than I ever would have thought.

Thank you fellow bloggers for making this experience so fulfilling.

Interestingly, Moumita has said something very similar on her post, go and see.

Ten Random Facts about Me – I am confiding in you, so that makes YOU my confidant.

  1. I love trees.
  2. I have a Ginkgo Biloba tree in the garden (See picture of some Ginkgo leaves)Image result for ginkgo biloba tree free picture
  3. I do not like temperatures to go above 27 degrees centigrade (80 Fahrenheit)
  4. I like travelling to places and learning about their culture, what makes them different and interesting.
  5. I love coming home.
  6. I love tea, proper tea, which is the leaf of the Camellia Sinensis plant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camellia_sinensis
  7. I detest Coffee, even the smell of it makes me feel queasy.
  8. I am fascinated by History.
  9. I have never been to the Continents of North or South America.
  10. I keep pet chickens.

Moumita has set some questions which I will answer.

What is that one thing you hate doing the most and yet need to do it often?

Tidying up, House work in general. Eventually It gets to a level that I can’t tolerate any longer and I do a blitz of it. Also if I have friends or family coming round for tea then I tidy up too.

Who is that one person you would like to thank for standing beside you in times of need?

My Partner is one, and the other is my Mother, gosh that woman has had a lot to put up with over the years. 🙂

What is the advice you wish you had followed in life?

Don’t worry so much. Just get on a do it. It is better to do something than sit there worrying about it and not doing anything at all.

Also Start blogging, it’s great fun.

If you are given a chance to rewrite the ending of any novel, which one would it be?

There was a series of books, called the Wheel of Time series, that I started reading back in 1994. The last book came out a couple of years ago and at the end one of my favourite characters dies, and another character that you think is going to die ends up surviving but in an altered state. To be frank, I though the ending was a huge let down. To make matters worse the author, Robert Jordan, died before the last couple of books were finished and so another author finished them off using his notes. I think sometimes that the ending wasn’t what the original author intended.

What do you look forward to read when you follow another blog?

I keep an open mind. I like to read stories that take me off on a journey or make me think. I like poetry that does that too. I don’t like anything too abstract though. I like the fact that there is a wealth of different material out there.

Are you a selfie lover?

No, with my face, NO. I prefer photos of the scenery around me.

What will you prefer to do the most – travel to an unknown location or read an interesting book with a cup of coffee?

Travel to somewhere I haven’t been to, then come home and have a cup of tea.

Have you ever judged someone entirely by his/her physical appearance?

I make judgements all the time. I think it is human nature to try to protect us. I don’t think that is the problem, it is failing to adjust your initial impression or not allowing someone the chance to make an impression of their own. I always keep an open mind. I judge much more on behaviour than on appearance.

What were your expectations when you published the first post in your blog?

I had no idea what would happen. Would I get a message saying ‘what on earth are you doing on here, you clearly have no talent’ ? I didn’t know. Thankfully I didn’t get any negative comments at all. At first I only got a few views but that has rapidly increased.

What is that one (good/bad) habit that has stuck with you since you were a kid?

I think I am pretty much the same person I was when I was a Kid, with the same faults and same virtues. I talk too much, I am never as Succinct as I should be and I am very trusting.

You can’t stop laughing when you think today about an incident that happened few years back. What is it?

I wish I could think of something. I find humour in lots of things but I don’t tend to remember them.

My Nominees:

I am not going to set any questions for my nominees, If they want to they can answer the ones above.

Three Happy Songs

Over the last few days I have been sharing a few of the songs that I have on my ‘Happy Playlist’ on my I-pod.

I use these songs to help shift my mood if I’m feeling a bit low.

I have decided that this one will be my last one of these, for a while at least. I may post one now and again in future, but this is more or less the Finale.

So what could be better to see out this series than these three.

  1. The Time Warp – Rocky Horror Picture Show

It is pretty much impossible not to feel better after that. One you jump to the left, step to the right, put your hands on your hips and bring your knees in tight, you really can’t remember what was making you feel sad in the first place.

2) I am what I am – Gloria Gaynor

Another great feel good anthem. We are all unique and that’s something to appreciate and be proud of. We all deserve to be treated with equal respect.

and finally, another song that, for me, turns a frown into a grin.

3) Make your own kind of Music. – Mama Cass Elliot

So that’s the last of my Happy Playlist for now. There are more songs in my list and I’m sure you have your own songs that make you happy too.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these and next time you’re feeling a bit jaded and in need of an uplift, try listening to one of these and see what happens.

Have a nice day, week, year and Life.

🙂
