Kreative Kue – Not a time for Kisses!

This poem was written for Keith Channing’s Kreative Kue challenge:

All I want to do is play with my duck

but it seems as though I’m just out of luck

I’ve been picked up and squeezed by hands so strong

I don’t like it, I think it’s so rude and so wrong!

I’d tell them to stop it, but I’m tiny and young

and I can’t seem to get the right words off my tongue.

And now they are pushing me into a face

Can I not have some dignity in this place?

I know you’re my mother and she is my sister,

but can’t you understand, I don’t want to kiss her?

It’s definitely a nightmare rather than a dream

so all I can do is to start crying and scream.

As they gathered in a crowd so thickly,

One looked up and shouted “Quickly!

It’s those tourists back again, once more,

To take our picture, What a bore.

Let’s stampede before they turn and click,

Those photo fiends just make me sick!”

But, too late, they’d got their photograph,

A load of Wildebeest and not one giraffe.

Bonfire of Broken Dreams

It’s the burning autumn leaves

That’s making me cry so much,

It isn’t that you’re leaving,

It’s not that I miss your touch.

Beachwalking – A poem for Kreative Kue

I walk along the beach at dawn

Wandering freely without much care

Of where I place each foot, forlorn

And heavy, wondering why I linger there.

I glance to see a foggy tendril

A whispering ghost of gossamer wing

I hear a voice, I stand and tremble,

It is my name the Angels Sing.

There, by the sea, a corpse is lying,

I rush to help, too late, and yet

I give a breath, then stop trying

My eyes fall upon a piece of Jet.

The blackest stone of mourning loss

I see its glimmer and watch it shine.

This gem reveals much with its gloss.

The Gem and body, both are mine.

Animal Thoughts, A poem for the Kreative Kue Picture Challenge

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

This poem was written for the Kreative Kue challenge from the Keith Kreates blog, see the link here:

https://keithchanning.wordpress.com/2019/03/18/kreative-kue-211/

Animal Thoughts

I often wonder wistfully,

As I’m sure do you,

What do animals think about?

What in their minds, pass through?

They often stand and stare at us,

poor humans walking by,

We laugh and point and make a fuss,

They probably wonder why.

I imagine Impish Impala think

About the prank they’ll play,

On the next group of travellers

That journey past their way.

And what of the noble Gnu?

What do they consider while,

the tourists gather around them,

What makes them look and smile?

I suppose they think we’re foolish,

Standing still on our two feet,

Just to get a glimpse of them,

We brave the savannah heat.

It’s probably us and our silly ways

That makes hyena laugh,

You won’t catch them

Waiting hourly

Just to take a photograph.

And these three splendid antelope,

Of the Sable kind,

What is going through their heads?

What thoughts tick through their mind?

They look rather stern and grandly bold.

Their glance appears quite flat,

I expect that what they’re thinking is,

“Oi! What are you lot Gawping at?”

A Picture by the Sea – A poem for Kreative Kue 210

I think that it is such a great picture, evocative and poignant. I hope my poem does this picture justice.

I took a picture of you,

Standing in the sea,

the water lapping at your feet,

as you smiled up at me.

Those days were simply perfect,

Though we didn’t know it then,

That life, as often happens,

Would change and change again.

Not long after the picture was taken,

I said farewell to you,

I watched you sail from my life

I cried for a week or two.

That seems a lifetime ago,

In many ways it was,

Our lives have drifted far apart,

And I’m to blame, because,

I left those words unspoken,

I didn’t tell you how I felt,

And that’s why our lives were broken

By the bitter hand, fate dealt.

Each and every day I wander,

By the water’s edge, I lurk,

Gazing at the sea that took you

Into the darkness and the murk.

It’s here I took a picture of you,

Standing in that sea,

How I wish that here and now,

You were smiling next to me.

Falconry and bird displays,

a remnant of those chivalry days,

when Knights behaved with courtly ways

So sad those days have gone.

An owl gazed longingly from his cage,

fragile in health, yet full of rage,

perhaps these fragments of a bygone age

are better left bygone?

As time forever marches on.

Home from Home – Kreative Kue 208

P1030499a

It may look a bit derelict and the internal décor may be a uniform brown colour, but this motor home meant a lot to her. It meant freedom.

For years she had wanted a holiday, a vacation away from home, but they couldn’t afford it. With two dogs, that had made it even harder to get away, they couldn’t afford to put them in kennels.

Then, as luck would have it, her husband managed to pick up this second-hand motor home for practically nothing! It was a dream come true and they could take the dogs with them.

Unfortunately the engine blew up and now, stuck in the lay by, she waited with her dogs for company while her husband went to find some help. It was after all, his fault for not giving the engine a thorough checking over before they’d set off on this journey.

She only hoped they could find help soon on this lonely stretch of road. She’d only packed enough food for a couple of days. They may end up all eating the dog food.

The Adventures of Jeremy – Continued.

A few days ago I wrote a short story about a boy called Jeremy. I received so many lovely comments about this story that I thought I would write some more about this character.

Keith Channing on his blog, Keith Kreates, hosts a picture blog, this weeks picture is below:

Children writing

Here is his post:

https://keithchanning.wordpress.com/2019/02/18/kreative-kue-207/

and here is my tale:

Jeremy wanted to go outside in the garden and continue his quest for the holy grail, but it had begun to rain. Normally, he wouldn’t have worried too much, after all the Knight of the round table had to put up with a lot worse than a bit of rain, but he was supposed to be looking after his little sister, Jennifer, and she didn’t like getting wet. She didn’t really like playing Knights of the round table either, especially after the time he said she was a Damsel in distress and tied her up with a blanket, against a tree. Her cries probably scared away every bird and animal in the whole park. His mother had come running up and that put an end to that adventure pretty quickly!

He suffered a great deal of dispraise from his Mother for that incident. He would never have hurt her, he was just going to tie her up and then rescue her, but she was two years younger than him and didn’t seem to understand about King Arthur or his Knights.

So instead of his preferred adventure, he remained indoors. He picked up the folder that contained all his most precious documents, letters from King Arthur, sealed at the bottom with a piece of red wax, taken, with the tacit agreement of his Mother from the outside of some cheese he’d found in the refrigerator and melted down to provide an authentic looking seal. He’d used one of his dad’s cufflinks to press into it, to make the shape of a shield. He also kept some drawings he’d done of what Camelot looked like. He decided to take out a blank piece of paper and draw a picture of the Lady of the Lake, the mysterious lady who had given King Arthur his famous sword, Excalibur.

After a little while, Jeremy decided that he wanted something else to do.

Leaving Jennifer to play with her toys, Jeremy went in search of his chemistry set.

He had received the Chemistry set for Christmas, it had been something he had really wanted, that was before the desire to become a Knight had taken over. Unfortunately, when he came very close to blowing the house up with it, his parents confiscated his Chemistry set and hid it away somewhere. Now he decided that rather than be a Knight, he would be like Merlin and use his Chemistry set to create a magical elixir instead.

However, before he could complete his quest to find his Chemistry set, it was time for lunch.

Before he was able to enjoy his meal, he had to go into the garden and feed his pet rabbit, Gwenivere. He had found the little rabbit on his last quest and had begged his Mother to be allowed to keep her. She had only relented on the condition that he looked after her. So he took out some carrot tops and lettuce and gave them to Gwenivere, who was pleased to see him. Giving her a gentle stroke behind the ears, something she seemed to really like, he then ran inside to have his lunch.

Kreative Kue 201 – Target Acquired.

Last week I discovered a picture challenge by another blogger, Keith Channing of Keith Kreates.

Here is what I did for last weeks challenge:

This is the picture for this week:

Right, Target Acquired.” The sound of clicking guns didn’t carry beyond the abandoned rooftop.

Wait, She doesn’t look like the criminal type.”

She may not look it, but she’s dangerous!

What did she do?

She doesn’t use her indicators when driving.”

“Fire when ready!”
