Gone Viral – A poem for our times.

I’ve decided to repost this poem that I wrote back when COVID first appeared. I’m pleased to say that the signs are the COVID threat is passing but it hasn’t gone away.

Today’s Word of the Day is Bizarre.

Life is quite strange at the moment

It’s bizarre, it’s weird and completely surreal

Like an old-time disaster movie

Waiting for the villain to finally reveal

His twisted scheme for world domination.

And so, Covid-19 has been released

Threatening mankind and all of creation

An obituary for the deceased.

If we heed the advice we’ve been given

And stay at home for our own survival

We may yet find we’ll come through fine

It may bring about humankind’s revival.

No more selfishly thinking of ourselves

No more being, by crowds, pushed and shoved.

By staying indoors and being dependent

We find out that we are truly loved.

We may feel at times, scared and delicate,

Adrift in a sea of doubts and cares.

But we are all in this boat together

And togetherness can beat despairs.

So, I bring you this one and final thought,

That turns this whole disaster on its head

There is always a silver lining of a sort,

So, think about this positively instead.

It’s strange that a deadly virus, although

it’s keeping us all apart, however,

Also appears to be the very thing

that has brought us all much closer together.

A Smile in a Foreign Land – A Multiple Word Prompt Poem

This poem was written in response to the following word prompts:

A Smile in a Foreign Land

If you want my opinion,

here is my narrative,

some things seem quite foreign,

but it’s only comparative.

When travelling abroad,

what seems strange at first glance

becomes far more familiar

if you just take a chance.

So keep an open, clear mind

when exploring the new

and then you will find

a different point of view.

So, if your tingling nerves start

when experiencing new places,

where your fears stalk your heart

in crowds of strange faces,

though people may be different in fashion and style,

it won’t feel quite so foreign

if you remember to smile.

Pop the Positive – Time to be Happy

I have been nominated for this challenge by Melanie Bee Cee of Sparksfromacombustiblemind.

https://sparksfromacombustiblemind.com/2019/09/20/pop-ticklish-thurs/

The challenge was initiated by my Pal Beckie of Beckie’s Mental Mess.

“Pop of Positivity” aka “POP!” Debut and Test Run: Time To Be Happy

Beckie states:

“Pop of Positivity”

“Pop of Positivity”   It’s based on one simple thing.  “Life doesn’t have to suck all the time.”  Let’s face it… There is a Helluva lot of negativity in the real world, and it’s pretty hard to escape it.  I thought of this as a means to brighten up everyone’s day from thinking negatively for a moment out of their day.  Perhaps, share some smiles along the way too.

Rules:

  1. Each Thursday, I’ll pick a Theme (Naturally something positive).

  2. I will, therefore, Tag Two Bloggers to continue the themed positive message along.

  3. You, the recipient of the tag can select anyway fit on how you want to share this positivity.  (Example: Quote, Affirmation, Music Video, Memes, Pictures, etc… As long it sticks to the Theme).

  4. Please create a ping-back to the original post (Beckie’s), as well as notifying your tagged bloggers that you have selected them.

Fairly easy, right?  Let’s say we give this a shot, okay?

Topic: Time To Be Happy”

So here I go:

“There isn’t much more positive than watching the Sunrise on a brand new day, feeling like there is a world of opportunity out there ready and waiting for you to grab it.”

You could be positive about winning the lottery….

But watching my chickens pecking around my garden gives me more pleasure than Gold.

Enjoying all the plants and flowers in my garden, that always puts me in a positive mood. IMG_3724

Of course, a bit of meditation is always nice….

But I find dancing around to cheesy music gives me a lift (even if the pictures blurry).

Maybe I should relax more and do a bit of Yoga on the beach….

But then again, maybe not. I’ll just enjoy staring at this picture of a sunflower instead. 😉

So, if you fancy taking up the baton and sharing some pictures of what makes you feel happy and positive, then please go right ahead.

I get lucky

When I feel my life is in a mess,

I get lucky.

When everything I try just fails to impress,

I get Lucky.

When the troubles of life get me down,

There’s no need to cry.

There’s one thing on which I can always rely.

Because I’m Lucky,

I get lucky.

If the bills and debts are building up,

I get lucky.

When life has left me with an empty cup,

I get lucky.

When the stresses of life give me a frown

there’s no need to fear.

I know that one day everything will come clear,

Because I’m lucky

I get lucky.

I have my ups and downs like all my friends

But I know.

They won’t last forever, there are no dead-ends

I’ve somewhere to go.

Whatever life brings, whatever life throws,

I get lucky.

Through stormy rains and wintry snows,

I get lucky.

When i’m not in the pink I’m in the brown

I don’t give a toss.

I’ve no further to sing, yet I fear no loss,

Because I’m lucky

I get lucky.

Home Improvements – A poem written for Kira’s Sunday Scribbles.

20190215_211846.jpg

This poem was written for Kira’s Sunday Scribbles:

https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com/2019/02/24/kiras-sunday-scribbles-31/

They say the grass is greener

On the other side

But I cannot seem to get there,

And God knows, I’ve tried.

A couple of times I’ve managed

To climb the wall and see

But then I lose my balance,

And fall back into misery.

I’ve sat and thought

The issue through

And now I know

Just what to do,

Instead of climbing walls

And having falls

I’ll try something else instead

I’ll try to reverse the way I look

And get inside my head.

If I can act more positively

To change my own green space,

I won’t have to try to climb at all.

Or fall so far from grace.

It will not cost so much,

Not more than I can afford,

If I made my world more beautiful,

Then I won’t have to go abroad.

Thumbelina – Micro fairy tale

I have always enjoyed fairy tales. I grew up watching them, hearing them and then reading them.

I remember seeing a film, I think it was Hans Christian Andersen with the Actor Danny Kaye.

He sang a song about Thumbelina.

Thumbelina, Thumbelina tiny little thing
Thumbelina dance, Thumbelina sing
Thumbelina what’s the difference if you’re very small?
When your heart is full of love you’re nine feet tall.

After a little research and an enjoyable trip down memory lane I found out that Danny Kaye actually wrote as well as performed the song.

Micro though she may have been, she was much loved.

Let your personality be the biggest thing about you. Let it shine to bring warmth and encouragement to everyone around you.

No matter how big you become, remember those starting out, with less experience, or with smaller talents.

May your talent grow, but may your ego’s remain micro.
