In the Roaring Traffic’s Boom – Night and Day.

Fandango’s word prompt today is Traffic and I instantly thought of this song by one of my favourite composers, Cole Porter. I find Cole Porter’s music particularly Scintillating and impressive because unlike many of his contemporaries, he wrote both the music and the lyrics. He had a reputation for clever lyrics.

This version is sung by Fred Astaire.

The song’s lyrics are below.

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom

When the jungle shadows fall

Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock

As it stands against the wall

Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops

When the summer shower is through

So a voice within me keeps repeating

You, you, you

Night and day, you are the one

Only you beneath the moon or under the sun

Whether near to me, or far

It’s no matter darling where you are

I think of you Day and night,

night and day, why is it so

That this longing for you follows wherever I go

In the roaring traffic‘s boom

In the silence of my lonely room

I think of you

Day and night,

night and day Under the hide of me

There’s an oh such a hungry yearning burning inside of me

And this torment won’t be through

Until you let me spend my life making love to you

Day and night, night and day

Here’s a thing ………

An Autumn Reminisce

The Autumn’s here,

 and while I fear

that summer’s gone away.

I admit to liking

The cooler nights

But not the skies, so grey.

I enjoy a stroll

In woods or on a knoll,

Admiring foliage turning red.

And gazing up, on clear nights

At Scintillating stars

Overhead.

And While I mourn the green

And the joys the flowers bring

I know that not too long

They’ll make a comeback in the spring.
