A Poem/Song Lyric – Before It’s Time to Say Goodbye

I have written this poem in response to the Word of the Day prompt HYMN and also the Ragtag Daily Prompt – Unaware.

I started out writing a poem, but then I realised that it had a certain rhythm and so it could be a song lyric too. What do you think?

Before It’s Time to Say Goodbye

Sometimes you don’t know

What you had until it’s time to go

It’s one of those things, I don’t know why

You finally discover what you had,

When it’s time to say goodbye

***

Life is sad

Life is Cruel,

It’s not good or bad,

Change is renewal.

Embrace the future with a smile

Live the moment, because in a while

Time will fly,

It will be time to say goodbye.

***

When faced with the end

Of a relationship or a friend,

Look back on all the good times you had

Shed a tear or two, then smile wide,

Life’s too short to remain so sad.

***

Sing a hymn,

say a prayer

be grateful you’re not

totally unaware,

Embrace the future with a smile

Live the moment, because in a while

Time will fly,

It will be time to say goodbye.

Song Lyric Sunday – That lonely sound.

The Song Lyric Sunday Challenge this week is we have different ways of saying goodbye as the prompt, and the song that you chose must contain either Arrivederci, Bon-voyage, Ciao, Farewell, Goodbye, Hasta la vista, Sayonara or Shalom in the title or the lyrics. Click on the link below to see Jim Adam’s post and to take part in the challenge.

I thought I would share this hit written by James Dean (no not THAT one) and William Weatherspoon for that Soul singer, Jimmy Ruffin. In 1970 he sang “Farewell is a lonely sound” which reached number 8 in the UK charts but only 104 in the US.

I hope you like this song.

“Farewell Is A Lonely Sound”

(Farewell farewell my love, farewell farewell my love)

Farewell is a lonely sound
When told to someone you love
You know, you hurt inside as you wonder why
You must leave the one that you love

Saying goodbye to someone you love
Is so hard for any man
You say it’s just for a while, then you force a smile
And you hope she’ll understand

Then a tear appears in her eyes
As she tightly holds your hand
Then you let her know that it’s time to go
You must leave while you can

Oh but, farewell is a lonely sound
When told to someone you love
You know, you hurt inside as you wonder why
You must leave the one that you love

(Farewell farewell my love, farewell farewell my love)
I’m leaving darling, but I’ll be, back one day

Ooh every silent step you take
Each one hurts your heart
As you board the train, you feel the pain
That starts as you depart, yeah

You wipe your eyes so she can’t see
Cos a man should never cry
Now there’s just a trace of her crying face
As you wave to her goodbye, that’s why

Farewell is a lonely sound
When told to someone you love
You know, you hurt inside as you wonder why
You must leave the one that you love

I don’t wanna leave you baby, I don’t wanna say goodbye no, no
Oooh cos it hurts inside, and you wonder why
You must leave the one that you love

Baby baby, farewell is a lonely sound

The Weekly Terrible Poetry Contest 4/11 – My Corona!

The Weekly Terrible Poetry Contest 4/11 – 4/17/2020 AKA 11/4 – 17/4/2020

So, this weeks challenge is to take a song and turn it into a parody of the Corona Virus.

Well here is my tasteless and rather obvious version of The Knack’s My Sharona.

It wrote itself really.

My Corona
My Corona
Ooh, my little deadly one, a deadly one
OK, at the moment I feel…. Fine, Corona
Ooh, you make my fever run, my fever run
Sweats running off me is that a…… Sign, Corona?

If I don’t ever stop, going out, I’m going out of my mind
I’ll get infected from the touch of the unwashed kind
My, my, my, ay, ay, woah!
M-m-m-my Corona

Don’t Come any closer, huh, ah, don’t ya, huh
Not Close enough to look in my eyes, Corona
Keeping six feet away from me,

or you will see, that everyone dies, Corona
If I don’t ever stop, going out, I’m going out of my mind
I’ll get infected from the touch of the unwashed kind
My, my, my, ay, ay, woah!
M-m-m-my Corona
M-m-m-my Corona
Na, na, na, na, na-na
My Corona
When you gonna get to me, get to me
It is just a matter of….. Time, Corona.

Please keep home, keep safe and look after yourselves, don’t let the parody’s become your reality.

321 Quote Me – Happiness

Thank you, Beckie, for tagging me. 🙂

Guidelines: 3.2.1 Quote Me!

Thank the Selector

Post 2 quotes for the dedicated Topic of the Day.

Select 3 bloggers to take part in ‘3.2.1 Quote Me!’

The Topic is Happiness.

What is happiness? It is a feeling of contentment caused when your mental health is good and you acknowledge that you have acquired or achieved something that makes you happy, or you realise that there is no reason to be unhappy. It is a mental attitude and it can be a choice, however, for someone suffering depression, this is not something that happens quite as well. So, In quoting Aeschylus below, I acknowledge that for some of us, simply choosing to be happy, doesn’t quite work as well.

Happiness is a choice that requires effort at times. - Aeschylus

“Money or things can’t buy you happiness, they can only provide a level of misery you can live with. “

I would also like to share with you a song lyric/poem that I wrote a while ago. It’s called Happiness:

Happiness.

When will I find Happiness?

I try to keep hopeful, but I confess

I have almost given up

Dreaming, hoping of the day

When I will find

Someone to love me, who is kind.

Happiness, I admit it, I am in Distress

The time left to me is getting less

Do I still have the chance

Of attracting someone nice?

Am I too Old?

Will I be left out in the cold?

When I was young I played the fool

Thought settling down was just uncool

But now I know I wasted time.

Looking back, I’ve passed my prime.

Will I ever find what I am looking for?

Or will I continue living without…..

Happiness. When will I find Happiness?

I feel my life is such a shameful mess.

And yet, somehow, I know

There is always tomorrow,

and I will find,

The one for me is, in my mind

and I’ll find happiness.

Have fun. 🙂

I get lucky

When I feel my life is in a mess,

I get lucky.

When everything I try just fails to impress,

I get Lucky.

When the troubles of life get me down,

There’s no need to cry.

There’s one thing on which I can always rely.

Because I’m Lucky,

I get lucky.

If the bills and debts are building up,

I get lucky.

When life has left me with an empty cup,

I get lucky.

When the stresses of life give me a frown

there’s no need to fear.

I know that one day everything will come clear,

Because I’m lucky

I get lucky.

I have my ups and downs like all my friends

But I know.

They won’t last forever, there are no dead-ends

I’ve somewhere to go.

Whatever life brings, whatever life throws,

I get lucky.

Through stormy rains and wintry snows,

I get lucky.

When i’m not in the pink I’m in the brown

I don’t give a toss.

I’ve no further to sing, yet I fear no loss,

Because I’m lucky

I get lucky.

Music for Hump Day

Wednesday is sometimes described as Hump Day because now it’s downhill to the weekend.

I hope this song uplifts you and helps you on your way. 🙂

I find the lyrics of this song really does resonate with me.

It is a shame that it is more aspirational than an actual reflection of what the world is, it is a world that could be.

Flashdance…What A Feeling

First when there’s nothing
But a slow glowing dream
That your fear seems to hide
Deep inside your mind
All alone I have cried
Silent tears full of pride
In a world made of steel
Made of stone
Well, I hear the music
Close my eyes, feel the rhythm
Wrap around
Take a hold of my heart
What a feeling
Bein’s believin’
I can have it all
Now I’m dancing for my life
Take your passion
And make it happen
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
Flashdance… What a Feeling” is a song from the 1983 film Flashdance, written by Italian composer Giorgio Moroder (music), Keith Forsey and Irene Cara (lyrics), and performed by Cara.
So find whatever you are passionate about (No rude suggestions please) and DO IT.
Life’s too short to do anything your not passionate about.

Matt Monro – Born Free Lyrics – Music by John Barry, lyrics by Don Black

Born Free
Performed by Matt Monro
Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart
Live free, and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star*Stay free, where no walls divide you
You’re free as a roaring tide
So there’s no need to hide

Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
Cause you’re born free

Here’s a bit more about the song:

Born Free and now I charge.

3 Quotes, 3 Days Challenge (Song Lyric Style) – DAY THREE

The lovely and brilliant Ang4him has nominated me for this interesting challenge.

https://journeytoimperfectionblog.wordpress.com/author/ang4him/

Please visit their blog:

https://journeytoimperfectionblog.wordpress.com/2018/05/25/3-quotes-3-day-challenge-song-lyric-style-day-1/

the RULES:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you
  2. Post 1 quote (song lyric) each day for 3 days
  3. Nominate 3 people

People who regularly visit my blog may have picked up on something about me…I am old fashioned and as such my music tastes are pretty 20th century, in fact I don’t think I have much music post 1990 on my i-Pod (but I’m not that bad really, I do have an I-pod).

So my old fashioned inspiring music quote of today is this one:

The original song “Spread a little happiness” Was written back in 1929 (told you I was old fashioned) but this version by Sting was a hit in the UK in 1982, when I was a wee nipper (5 Years Old). I remember it and I’ve always loved it. The Lyrics are below:

“I’ve got a creed for every need
So easy that it must succeed
I’ll set it down for you to read
So please, take heed
Keep out the gloom
Let in the sun
That’s my advice for everyone
It’s only once we pass this way
So day by day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn’t sigh and you mustn’t cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by
Please try

What’s the use of worrying and feeling blue?
When days are long keep on smiling through
Spread a little happiness till dreams come true

Surely you’ll be wise to make the best of every blues day
Don’t you realise you’ll find next monday or next Tuesday
Your golden shoes day

Even when the darkest clouds are in the sky
You mustn’t sigh and you mustn’t cry
Spread a little happiness as you go by”

How’s that for inspiring lyrics? I try to live by them….Some days it is easier than others.
