They’re upbeat songs and full of class,

with unstoppable rhythms and a blast of brass

Sunny – Yesterday my life was filled with rain.

The Word of the Day is Sunny and that made me think of this song by Boney M from 1976.

I hope you enjoy this reminder of a different time back in the 1970s.

https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com/2020/05/30/sunny/

The lyrics are as follows:

Sunny,
yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny,
you smiled at me and really eased the pain.
The dark days are gone,
and the bright days are here,
My sunny one shines so sincere.
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny,
thank you for the sunshine bouquet.
Sunny,
thank you for the love you brought my way.
You gave to me your all and all.
Now I feel ten feet tall.
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny,
thank you for the truth you let me see.
Sunny,
thank you for the facts from a to c.
My life was torn like a windblown sand,
And the rock was formed when you held my hand.
Sunny one so true, I love you.

Sunny

(Instrumental)

Sunny,
thank you for the smile upon your face.
Sunny,
thank you for the gleam that shows its grace.
You’re my spark of natures fire,
You’re my sweet complete desire.
Sunny one so true, I love you
Yes, I love you, baby.

Sunny,
yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny,
you smiled at me and really eased the pain.
The dark days are gone,
and the bright days are here,
My sunny one shines so sincere.
Sunny one so true, I love you, yeah.

I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.

Victory in Europe day – 75 years since the end of WWII in Europe. Time for a Sing Song

Image may contain: 1 person, crowd and outdoor

So, 75 years ago today it was Victory in Europe day, V.E day. That’s a fact.

The war in the far east rattled on for a few more months, but the war in Europe was finally over and peace was restored.

Seeing the crowds gathering in the streets to celebrate the end of a long and desperate war must have been a sight to behold.

To celebrate I have recorded new versions of two wartime classics.

I was tagged to take part in this challenge by Melanie B Cee of the blog sparks from a combustible mind. Click on the link below:

“What is “Pop!” – Pop of Positivity?”

“Pop of Positivity”   It’s based on one simple thing.  “Life doesn’t have to suck all the time.”  Let’s face it… There’s a Helluva lot of negativity in the real world, and it’s pretty hard to escape it.  I thought of this as a means to brighten up everyone’s day.  Taking time away from thinking about the negative and switch gears and think of the positive.  Perhaps,  we can all share some smiles along the way too.

#5 Theme: Post an Affirmation That Lifts You Up and a Song That Makes Brightens and Perks Up Your Mood.

Rules:

  1. Each Thursday, I’ll pick a Theme (Naturally, of something positive).
  2. Tag 3 Bloggers to continue the themed positive message along.
  3. You, the recipient of the tag can select anyway fit on how you want to share this positivity.  (Example: Post an Affirmation that lifts you up as well as a song that brightens and perks up your mood).
  4. You will create a Pingback to the original post, as well as notifying your tagged blogger that you have selected them.

So here we go:

Two Starry Songs

When I head the Word of the Day was ASTRAL two songs instantly came to mind because of their first lines. Astral being a reference to the stars.

  1. Firstly – Starry, Starry Night.

“Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)” – Don McLean

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and gray
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul

Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and the daffodils
Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colors on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they’ll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds in violet haze
Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue

Colors changing hue
Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how
Perhaps they’ll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night

You took your life, as lovers often do
But I could’ve told you Vincent
This world was never meant for
One as beautiful as you

Starry, starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls
Frame-less heads on nameless walls
With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget

Like the strangers that you’ve met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they’re not listening still
Perhaps they never will

and Secondly, Dream a little Dream of Me.

Saturday Morning Music – Harmony

The Word of the Day is Harmony.

There are plenty of bands that were famous for their harmonies, here are three examples.

One of the best, in my view, was the Beach Boys – Good Vibrations.

Another excellent example of Harmony is Simon and Garfunkel – Bridge over Troubled Waters.

And here is one that you may not have heard. Peter and Gordon – World Without Love,

The song was written by Paul McCartney (of The Beatles) who was going out with Peter Asher’s Sister, Jane Asher at the time.

Some lovely harmonies on this one.

Happy Saturday everyone. 🙂

30 Day Song Challenge – Catch up

A blog that I follow has started playing along with this challenge and it looks like great fun. I found it on Paula Light, Light Motifs II blog, but I then found some of my other blogging pals were doing it too. Check them out:

While I do enjoy writing my stories, sometimes I find I pummel away at the keyboard for a while and then I need something lighter to make me feel better.  A little leisure to recuperate and let my Imagination recover. There is no better therapy than music and so without any further ceremony, here are my songs for this challenge.

Day 1: A song you like with a colour in the title:

Mr Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra.

Day 2: A Song you like with a number in the title:

Well I do enjoy a cheese fest, and there is nothing more cheesy than this:

Seven Tears – The Goombay Dance Band.

Day 3: A Song that reminds you of the Summer Time.

In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry

This is a great song, but boy has it dated. One of the lines “Have a drink, have a drive, go out and see what you can find” is not at all a good idea! Unless the drink it is referring to is a good cup of tea (or that other brown beverage) but I don’t think it is.

Day 4: A song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget.

This song reminds me of its artist, Rolf Harris, who was a celebrity in the UK and came originally from Australia. He was rather a favourite of mine until it came to light that he had been guilty of inappropriate behaviour with lots of young girls. He was convicted and imprisoned in 2014. So, this fits the bill, it is a song and it reminds me of someone I’d rather forget. The actual artist of the song. I don’t think I will ever get over the disappointment.

So would anyone else like to take part in this song challenge?

More tunes from my Happy Playlist

I have been posting, the last couple of days, about songs from my Happy List.

These are songs that usually help to pull me out of a sad place. Sometimes when you haven’t slept well or things get to you more than usual, these songs help me cope.

There are some more modern songs on my Happy list but a lot of the music I like, which tends to have a proper melody, are from the sixties and seventies.

Here is a song that helps to change my mood.

Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys. I think it helps because it starts in a soft melodic almost melancholic tone which taps in to the mood, then it builds up into an upbeat and happy melody with brilliant harmonies. A great mood changer from a great group.

And another Beach Boys song that is on my Happy list is ‘Wouldn’t it be Nice’.

Of course, the Beach Boys had lots of great hits, like Surfing Safari and Kokomo, but these are the only ones that feature on my particular Happy list.

And one last song for today, from a completely different and less well-known band.

Edison Lighthouse had a huge hit in the UK with this Song in January 1970 and it epitomises the Pop scene for that era on the cusp of the sixties and seventies.

It always improves my mood, although I am not sure why.

I hope you liked my Happy songs for today.

What do you listen to when you’re feeling low?
