The Bake Sale – A poem

My blogging friend, Mel from the blog Caramel (learner at Love) is co-hosting a bake Sale event, click on the link below to find out more:

https://crushedcaramel.wordpress.com/2020/06/25/what-will-be-in-our-picnic-basket/#like-22950

To commemorate this event, I have written this poem. 🙂

We are having a giant bake sale, in our neighbourhood.

Auntie Gladys has made her carrot cake

Who knew carrots could taste so good?

And while it’s a Hot July and we’re in a summer sizzle,

What could be more fitting than a slice of Dave’s Lemon Drizzle?

While I enjoy the sunshine, the heat’s been a bit extreme,

So I’m enjoying a slice of cake smothered in Ice-Cream.

It’s great to get together and share what we’ve all been making,

In this sweltering summer heat, it’s us that have been baking!

I won’t moan too much though, it’s winter soon for goodness sake,

So my final message to you all is let them all eat cake. 😊

Three Things Challenge – Summer Nights

No other gadget can compare

For its clever, cunning, cooking ways

Of harnessing fires burning flare.

Now I’m yearning for those summer days.

The BBQ sizzling up a storm,

And Summer nights, so soft, so warm.

Sun, Sea and a Cup of Tea – Finale.

A few days ago I wrote a short story about a woman on holiday, called Sun, Sea and a Cup of Tea. See here:

Well it didn’t seem finished and a few people told me that it needed some more, so I wrote part two here:

But it still wasn’t finished. So here is the finale.

Sun, Sea and a Cup of Tea – Finale

Jane walked down the street from the apartment complex to the main part of town. She heard a couple of guys wolf whistle as she went past. She smiled to herself. Her fifty-year-old body may not be as slim as it used to be but clearly, she still had it. Then she heard footsteps behind her. Angela was walking a long behind her wearing a white sarong dress over her black bikini with a black wide-brimmed hat. She wore stylish espadrille wedges on her feet that gave her extra height. Jane felt a pang of jealousy as she realised the wolf whistles hadn’t been for her at all but for Angela’s stunning twenty-something year old figure instead.

Angela walked up to her and gave her a warm smile. “Hi Jane, are you headed into town too? Do you mind if I join you?”

Word Prompt: Anticipation

https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com/2018/06/20/anticipation/

Yesterday I wrote a light-hearted story called ‘An Unconventional Upbringing’. It was the story of a young child brought up in a strange atmosphere of camaraderie but without convention.

See here to read it:

Well the Britchy One wanted some more. You know you can’t say no to the Britchy one, right?

So, I thought I would write the story of the quirky mum. Where there’s light, there’s dark, so prepare yourself for the dark. Without further anticipation, here is the tale.

The Quirky Mother’s Tale

I’ve been called many things in my time. A slut, a harlot, a drunk and the most painful of all, an unfit mother. Well let me tell you how it feels to be me, shall I?

I was born into a strict household. My mother gave birth to me but never really loved me. She was just having me because she was carrying out her wifely duties and her husband, my father, took his rights very seriously. Every night. I don’t remember my Father very clearly but he never laughed or smiled. Neither did my Mother. It was a cold, uncaring atmosphere to grow up in. When my Father died, my Mother had very little money but she married a cousin just to keep a roof over our heads. Now I remember my Stepfather all too clearly. I only wish I could forget. My favourite drink of bourbon can only blot him out briefly. I was only fourteen when it started. My Mother was no longer so keen to perform her wifely duties and she was looking rather haggard after all the years of physical abuse my Father had put her through. So, my Stepfather started to sneak into my room at night. At first, he was gentle and he just touched me. He would make me touch him too. No, please excuse me, I won’t go into any of the gruesome details. It isn’t fit for decent ears.
