A Limerick – Lying Camera’s

This Limerick was written for Sadje’s What do you See Challenge.

What do you see # 36 – 29 June 2020

The camera, they say never lies

But so often it seems to disguise

the model’s face and its flaws

a bold nose or weak jaws

so the truth never reaches the eyes.

What Do You See? – Is this a Musical?

cat courtships

I have written this poem inspired by this picture in response to the What do you See? Challenge, see link below:

What do you See? June 4/2019

I have also included the Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge from the Go Dog Go Cafe,

see link here:

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge June 4, 2019

The challenge is to write a poem (or story) with the phrase “Free Me” in it.

So here we go:

As they gathered by the light of the moon,

The Pussycat sang a line from an old Broadway Tune,

Serenading the Tomcat who stood tall on the tiles

From the rooftop, it seemed they could both see for miles.

Then into the night, they heard a loud miaow

Followed by shouting “Please Free Me Right Now”

And dangling beneath them from the gutter

A marmalade alley cat flailed like a nutter.

He shouted again “Oi, don’t act like a dope”

“The least you could do is to throw me a rope”.

It’s not hard to see how these antics inspired

Andrew Lloyd Webber, and how ‘Cats’ transpired.

What do you See? – A forgotten birthday

What do you See? May 28/2019

He was feeling rather sad and low,

And sorry with his lot,

Because although it was his birthday,

His friends, they’d all forgot.

He kicked his bedroom door ajar,

And banged upon his drum,

despite this being his special day,

he sulked and sucked his thumb.

He stalked about in a dreadful mood,

Like a scorpion with a sting,

He shouted at the postman when,

He failed to deliver anything.

In a fit of hurtful rage,

he presented an ultimatum

in a letter, he sat down and wrote,

I wouldn’t dare recite it out verbatim.

It clearly showed how out of sorts

And neglected he really felt,

Oh! what truly miserable hand

It was that fate had dealt.

And as the day had nearly closed

he entered the dining room,

and there, beside a papaya

he hadn’t wanted to consume,

he saw a birthday present,

wrapped up and tied with bows.

He heaved and sighed and then he cried

The tears ran down his nose.

Then jumping out of the shadows,

His friends sang out three cheers

And then quite prompt, they did applaud

Nearly deafening his ears.

It made him feel quite bashful

And filled with deep remorse,

He had doubted they

would remember his day,

When they clearly had, of course.

What do you see – A Fallen Leaf

This poem was written for Helene Vaillant’s ‘What do you see’ picture challenge:

What do you See? May 21/2019

Like a fallen leaf

lying on the forest floor,

my pride in tatters,

wondering what my future has in store.

Naked in the wilderness,

gnawed by grubs of doubt,

now you left me lying here,

what is this life about?

So charming, you enticed me

but the years revealed the truth,

your hateful lies, my tortured cries,

have robbed me of my youth.

My blind desires may have been

a factor in my fall.

but knowing me for all these years,

how could you be so cruel?

I know I’ll rise above this,

emerge a butterfly from my grief,

but now, I lay discarded here,

like a fallen leaf.

What do you see? – A Keen Heart

tower

This poem was written for Helene Vaillants ‘What do you see’ Challenge. See link below:

What do you See? May 14/2019

A gleaming glorious spire

Above the darkest vault,

Are you curious to enquire,

what treasures there exalt?

At the towers very top,

With views across the land,

A splash of crimson petals

Watered by a loving hand.

The greatest prize is always seen

With effort and a heart that’s keen.

Without a match, the future’s blind.

The rules for everyone are just the same.

You must seek and ye shall find.

What do you See? April/09/2019

In natures garden, I stand serene

My mind alert, my senses keen,

Joined hand in hand with kindred hearts

We dance around while hate departs.

Those who taunt to bedevil our aims

Who bring their hatred and their flames

Will not deter us from our path

We eschew the ways of the sociopath.

a sensible ideology,

Peace and love is our theology,

What do you see – A Daredevil in Flight

40

This poem was written for Helene Vaillant’s What do you see challenge:

What do you See? April 2, 2019

He’d had a prescient feeling

When his application had gone in.

The excitement sent him reeling

And made his head feel in a spin.

When the phone call came

To say he’d won the competition

He pretended all the same

That he hadn’t had a premonition.

The booked time was at midnight

The weather had been rather warm

It wasn’t a great time for his maiden flight

Particularly in a thunderstorm.

But regardless of the weather,

He put on his favourite sweatshirt

And carried his lucky eagle feather.

And prayed that no-one else gets hurt.

As the lightning struck across the sky

You’d think no one would have flown that day,

But he was a daredevil and that was why

He shouted, “Cast-off and Chocks Away!”

What do you See? – Ghostly Footsteps.

E

This poem is written in response to Helene Vaillant’s What do you see Challenge:

What do you See? March/26/2019

and also the Tuesday’s Writing Prompt Challenge from the Go Dog Go Cafe, to write a poem containing the line “Footsteps of the Mind”.

Tuesday Writing Prompt Challenge March 26, 2019

As I wander through the cloisters,

Just to see what I can find,

I hear a noise come suddenly

Like the footsteps of the mind.

Are these spectres from my memories?

Or something much more sinister?

Is it a thief that haunts the shadows

With some violence to administer?

My heart beats faster as I linger

In the dim and darkening light

Then I see from out the shadows

Something Impish, bold and white.

I see it bound and run towards me

And I scream and jump a mile

Then I realise that what I feared

Is just a dog, This makes me smile.

Can there ever be a terror

Greater than the one I find

When I leave my thoughts to linger

On those footsteps in my mind?

The Knight and the Dragon

https://www.deviantart.com/alarie-tano

https://www.deviantart.com/alarie-tano

This poem was written in response to this picture challenge from Helene at Willow Poetry:

What do you See? March 12, 2019

Over the Bridge, rode the Knight,

In search of his prey,

Armed and ready to fight

despite the odds, Come what may.

He’d given his pledge

To Vanquish that foe,

Who some would allege,

Had brought them much woe.

He searched across the land

The dreaded dragon laid low,

Did it fear his mighty hand?

It would appear so.

For though the Knight looked

Over every hill and dale,

There was no sign whatever,

Of a Dragon, and so ends this tale.
